When I found out Maurice Sendak died yesterday I was first filled with melancholy and then I started pouring through my books of his artwork , watched clips of an upcoming documentary on his life and began to feel hugely inspired. I ended up spending the day sketching. A couple of em here.
A sneak peak at my image for Two and A Quarter Show as a part of Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival. I shoot a lot of my day to day imagery with my iphone so it was a great challenge to embrace the unpredictable nature of film and to remember where the filtered looks and select focus of ‘hipstamatic’ and ‘instagram’ really originate from. This image is 2 1/4 bw 400 iso film, printed as a digital c-print at 20”x20” with the details of the bunny scratched into the film with a needle.
The Show opens tonight from 7-10pm at Lomography Gallery 536 Queen St. West Toronto. Come check it out!
My studio is situated out of Mariel Gonzalez’( founder/head designer of Isak and Inger) live/work space. We both love plants and old things so its been a pretty amazing match.
